2024 Mission Moment

The Alagno Family

Our family is forever indebted to NKF and to those who help raise money to ensure its important work can continue. My son's condition is a lifelong one and so is our support for this fantastic organization.

- Caryn Alagno

The Alagno family of Washington, DC will be featured during the Mission Moment at the Kidney Ball. Young Davidson Alagno was diagnosed with kidney disease three weeks shy of his 7th birthday. At that point he was already transplant eligible, but his surgery was delayed due to the beginning of the pandemic when “elective surgeries” were postponed.

Due to advocacy work by the National Kidney Foundation, transplants were reclassified as “essential” and were able to resume in the summer of 2020. Davidson’s mother Caryn donated a kidney to him, and both mother and son are thriving now.

The whole Alagno family has been dedicated to raising awareness about kidney disease and organ donation ever since. They have twice been featured on the Jumbotron at NKF’s Wizards Organ Donation Awareness Tournament, shared their story at the virtual Kidney Ball in 2021, captained a top fundraising Kidney Walk team and NKF Golf Classic, and Davidson even threw out the first pitch at a Bowie Baysox game in 2023. The Alagnos never miss an opportunity to educate friends, family, and the entire Washington, DC community about the importance of organ donation.
